About This Form

What This Company Questionnaire Is For

A company is a separate legal entity, which means it files its own return and pays tax in its own right. This questionnaire is how Guardian Accounting gathers the information needed to prepare your company financial statements and annual return, so the company's position is reported accurately and its obligations are met on time.

Company accounting involves details that do not apply to other structures. Shareholder salaries, current accounts, dividends, and imputation credits all need to be handled correctly, and they affect both the company's return and each shareholder's personal position. The form walks through these in plain questions rather than accounting language.

Who Should Complete It

This form is for a director or shareholder completing it on behalf of the company. You may need it if the company:

  • Trades and earns income in New Zealand
  • Is a look-through company (LTC)
  • Owns rental property or investment assets
  • Pays shareholder salaries or dividends
  • Is registered for GST or has employees on PAYE
  • Was incorporated or ceased trading during the year

What To Have Ready

The form goes faster if you gather these before you start:

  • The company IRD number and bank account details
  • Accounting software access, or income and expense records
  • Bank statements and loan details for the year
  • Shareholder salary and drawings information
  • Details of any dividends paid during the year
  • Last year's financial statements, if you have them

What Happens After You Submit

01 We Review Your Answers Bruce checks what you have provided and identifies anything that may need clarifying before the accounts are prepared.
02 We Prepare The Accounts Company financial statements and the annual return are prepared using the records supplied.
03 You Review And Sign The completed accounts and return are sent for review and digital signing before anything is filed with Inland Revenue.
If shareholders have changed, dividends were paid, or a shareholder has taken drawings from the company during the year, mention it before the accounts are prepared. These affect both the company position and each shareholder's personal return. Add a note in the additional information field, or get in touch with Bruce before you submit.
